I've been haunting other people's blogs to see what they do (Thanks Shelley Munro for a great post on promotion the other day, along with Marcia James' blog a while back). I've been reading other authors' newsletters to see what they include and how often they send them. I've been joining review sites - Coffee Time Romance and Romance Studio, Manic Readers, etc. Yesterday I waded even further into the deep end of the pool and created my own Leah Braemel Yahoo group as a method of distributing a newsletter, posting excerpts, etc.
(By the way, how you feel about Yahoo groups - do you prefer where only the owner/moderator posts? Or do you like to post to them? Or do you delete a lot of group digests unread because there is just 'too much' coming through in a day?)
Talk about a whole new ballgame once you're published. So much to do. So much to think about. So little time!

You might want to stop in at Nathan Bransford's blog today... he's got author Michelle Moran talking promo.
I'm glad I could help, Leah. There is so much to think about. You don't realize it when your on the aspiring side of the fence. All you're focused on is getting to the greener side of the fence!
Recently I've been hitting delete with a lot of my groups. Time is precious.
Susan - thanks for the heads up. I like Nathan's blog but have lost all my feeds and bookmarks. I need to start rebuilding *sigh*
Susan - thanks for the heads up. I haven't been reading Nathan lately and I need to start up again.
Shelley - your advice has been priceless. I'd worried about that when starting up the Yahoo group as I'm topping about 50 groups, though some of them are other authors' newsletter pages so there's no traffic. That's why I've set mine up not to be a discussion group - I've been deleting a lot of my group messages unread as some groups are SO active I can't keep up (as in more than 300 posts a day) I may rethink the method of distributing the newsletter, but the Yahoo groups will be a start.
50 groups! Wow, I think I'm on maybe 10 and I can't even begin to keep up with those. I'm actually not fond of the Yahoo groups, but it's a necessary evil to some extent, but that's why I've limited them. I've found that blogs and my website, myspace and facebook are my strongest promotional online tools--at least for now.
Congratulations on your upcoming release and good luck with all your promotional endeavours. Let me know when you are starting to book some blog visits and you can be a guest over on mine (if you want)!
